National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)
The college has N.S.S. units for both boys and girls which aim at instilling social and civic responsibility among the candidates. There is a provision of admitting 100 volunteers in each unit. At the onset of an academic session, an Induction Program is conducted for the students so as to apprise them of the N.S.S. aims, objectives and activities. The unit endeavors to make the candidates inculcate the values of selfless service for the society with a ‘Not Me but You’ approach. Envisioning holistic development of the students, multitudinous activities are conducted all the year round to refine their personality. Blood donation camps, tree plantation, cleanliness drives, health camps, programs to enhance women’s safety, celebration of important national and international days, and street plays on social issues are few of the major activities of N.S.S. The most distinctive activity is the adoption of a local village by the N.S.S. volunteers who then devote themselves wholeheartedly to the development of the region. A seven day camp at a local village is also set wherein the students showcase their skills and talents. At the college level they are rewarded with ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificates. The N.S.S. plays an instrumental role in facilitating an understanding of their immediate surroundings and community among students; also making the candidates perform their fundamental duties. N.S.S. had been introduced in the year 1969 by the Government of India with the purpose of inculcating the spirit of social responsibility, consciousness; self motivated discipline and respect towards labor among the students of higher education.
